31/06/10 –

The EWI Conference was, again, a great success at Church House and was again hosted by Dr Harry Brünjes, Group Medical Director, Capita.  This year the programme featured four Lords: the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Justice Jacob and Lord Tebbit.  Lord Justice Jackson provided the after-dinner speech at The Reform Club in the evening.

The Lord Chief Justice started the day with the responsibilities of expert opinion both in the civil and criminal arenas.  James Badenoch, QCV, Chairman of the EWI, provided his now annual barnstorming state of the nation address.  Lord Tebbit was the keynote speaker and presented the Sir Michael Davis Lecture which reflected on his long career in politics.

Robert Musgrove gave an interesting presentation on the Civil Justice Council in his capacity  as Chief Executive.  There were also excellent contributions from Chris Easton, Governor EWI, Nick Addyman, Governor EWI, Penny Cooper, Governor EWI, Kay Linnell, Governor EWI, Janet Tilley, Civil Justice Council and Amanda Stevens, former President of APIL.  Various topical points were addressed in the afternoon, followed by the Question Time session and the Conference close with an excellent talk from Lord Justice Jacob.

EWI Annual Dinner, Reform Club

Dr Harry Brünjes and James Badenoch hosted this year’s Expert Witness Institute Dinner at The Reform Club. The guest speaker was Lord Justice Jackson.  Rupert Jackson proved to be a strong attraction and the magnificent Library at The Reform Club was full with senior members of the Judiciary, the legal profession and the insurance sector.  Rupert Jackson gave an entertaining and provocative view of the trials and tribulations he has undergone while preparing his report and also addressed with great confidence some challenging questions from the floor.
